Guru Ram Das Ji (1534–1581), the fourth Guru of the Sikhs, is remembered as a living embodiment of humility, compassion, and divine grace. He founded the holy city of Amritsar, which became the spiritual heart of Sikhism, and began the construction of the Sarovar (holy tank) around which the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) was later built.
Guru Ram Das Ji composed beautiful Gurbani hymns that guide seekers toward love, peace, and remembrance of Waheguru. His teachings emphasize Seva (selfless service), Sangat (holy company), and Simran (meditation on God’s Name) — principles that continue to inspire the Sikh way of life.
Through his life and message, Guru Ram Das Ji showed that true devotion is expressed through humility, service to humanity, and constant remembrance of the Divine. His words remind us:
“One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Name of the Lord.”
– Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 305
